You know, as I was typing that message, I thought to myself... should I 
mention that most POP3 clients have the ability to leave mail on the
server?  And I almost did put in a parenthetical note. But it seemed to
me in this case that it was NOT configured that way - and probably 95%+
of the people do not set up their clients this way (with POP3)... and I
only had a moment to dash off a quick reply, so I didn't include a note
like that.  But you're absolutely right. POP3 does not *require* that
messages be deleted and is configurable in the client.

Yikes... it would actually be an interesting experiment to try (on a 
system where you didn't care about the mailbox and whether you would
lose anything).  In theory, I *could* see it working.  But I would
wonder about the status of the message flags and such.  Hmmm...
