So, as I understand it, the behaviour is the same whether we use a
"hidden" ._winprofile directory or a [profiles] share, except that a 
[profiles] share requires a world-writable directory (or see below).

Is that correct? If so, is seems that a [profiles] share is the less 
desirable option.

We could create a subdirectory under /home/e-smith/files/samba/profiles 
for each user when the user is created. However, I still can't see why 
this is better than using _.winprofile for 9x and NT/2K/...

Am I missing something?
