Actually, in my previous email I thought I said this would work (I must have pasted my work in my message and not the directory snapshot from the default settings.) What doesn't work is fragment default admin:admin. Additionally, admin:shared, and root:admin don't work. However, Darrel pointed out to me off-list that root:share still issues an error when a person first logs into a domain. This must be some sort of a "Samba glitch" as once you log out, user profile information is successfully written to the server. Subsequent logins succeed without issue. What's strange about the root:share ownership is that this is the configuration recommend in the Using Samba book.... In both admin:share and root:shared, smbd produces the following on log level 3: [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/vfs.c:vfs_ChDir(658) vfs_ChDir to /home/e-smith/files/samba/profiles [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(610) gzlaptop (192.168.0.102) connect to service profile as user joe (uid=5002, gid=5002) (pid 5052) [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(320) setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0 [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/reply.c:reply_tcon_and_X(396) tconX service=profile user=joe <snip> [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] lib/util.c:unix_clean_name(391) unix_clean_name [joe] [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/trans2.c:call_trans2qfilepathinfo(1375) fileinfo of joe failed (No such file or directory) [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/error.c:error_packet(99) error string = No such file or directory <snip> [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] lib/util.c:unix_clean_name(391) unix_clean_name [joe/ntuser.dat] [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/open.c:open_file(158) Error opening file joe/ntuser.dat (No such file or directory) (local_flags=0) (flags=0) [2001/11/29 13:15:20, 3] smbd/error.c:error_packet(99) I fell like we are out beating on a dead horse here. I don't want to step on peoples feet here, but what's the issue(s) with the prevous roaming profiles configuration options that we've come up with?
