As Gordon says, the conf-samba script already handles this. We replace the
/etc/samba/smb.conf file installed by the RedHat RPM with a symlink. We
then expand the /etc/smb.conf template. In that file, we specify an
alternative path for the smbpasswd file. All that's left is a harmless
lmhosts file, and a new smbusers file, which will need to be templated or
deleted.

Or am I missing something?
