We have been somewhat busy...

We needed to replace qmail-smtpd to provide hooks for other tools,
such as virus scanning. This is not possible with qmail-smtpd without
patching qmail-queue, and this is not allowed by the qmail distribution
license. We also wanted to be able to block certain addresses at
the front door to avoid false positives from SMTP anti-relay testers.

However, we've had a number of problems with Obtuse SMTPD. Further
examination of the code made us decide that an alternative would be
preferable to further patching. Obtuse SMTPD was originally written
to protect sendmail servers, and in doing so provides many checks
and rewrites which are not required for qmail as qmail is not susceptible
to the same sendmail breakage. We also had serious problems with mail
headers and bodies in non US-ASCII being modified, which is particularly
difficult when this release contains internationalisation support :-)

Finally, we were maintaining Obtuse SMTPD.

Mailfront is a drop-in replacement for qmail-smtpd which provides
hooks for other tools to examine mail before queueing it. It will
have the ability to handle patterns in the badmailfrom and badrcptto
lines soon. At that point it will have all of the features required.

Naturally, if someone wants to add the pattern matching before we or
the author does, we're willing to accept the patches.
