As far as 'something else' goes, has anyone looked at the email server bundle at http://www.rhsd.net/ ? It is basically a scripted install of postfix and cyrus configured for ldap authentication - probably the 'best of breed' applications, plus a web admin screen and a web mail interface. I dropped it into a test machine running RH 7.2 and it looks very promising. Aside from the efficiency of the Cyrus mailbox format, the real value of this setup would be that the LDAP scheme allows mail delivery to be distributed across many machines with central control. If this can be tied to samba also using LDAP authentication it will move SME beyond its current 'only-one-server' limit.
