For whatever it is worth, I have had 500 unique IP addresses attempt to
contact my node in the past several days. My IP addr is in the
seednodes.ref directory. These are mainly nodes that have been set up
or updated in the past 3 weeks, as I wasn't in the directory previously.
I don't know how far-flung announcements can get (it's insignificant?).
It has been interesting to hear that the "whole network" collapsed
recently. What are the chances that a large number of people installed
5028 months ago, and that they have remained connected and functioning
during this volatile period ? People who do not participate on the
maillists or IRC. People who have not even visited the Freenet website
in the past 6 months. Perhaps even people who don't use TFE or TFEE
but rather have created their own 'domains' of information. I would
guess, based on my observations, that the total number of hosts
running any version Freenet, is probably somewhere between 1000 and
20,000 . Of course, trying to estimate the size of Freenet is next
to impossible, but I'll take a stab :) Any other gamblers out there ?

Ken
