Darknet chat is distinct from other kinds of chat. It's not anonymous, for 
example.

There are other tools such as Sone and Flip. Sone in particular has the 
potential to scale reasonably well and maintain realtime response when fetching 
messages by your friends. On the other hand, third party replies and mentions 
(and keyword searches if supported) will be slow.

Yes, it takes some hours for Freetalk to download all the messages.

The real solution is to fix search. I should expedite this. However even if I 
implement the search metadata change today, it will take time to rebuild 
indexes.
