The problem with this is that tis does require a master server, even
though it is anonymous. This is similar to freesites, but this server
has to be constantly running for such a scheme to work at all like
"real" FTP.

Something like CVS would be made FAR easier if dynamic updating with
versioning was introduced. Versioning in a way does already exist,
but it is on either an index or date basis, and there is always the
problem with indexed systems if any significant number of items
between the last known item and the newest item are lost (which causes
contiguity to be lost).
