Thanks very much to J. Breu, T. Lemon of course, and B Kochie who
responded. The solution of adding "option routers" worked perfectly. I'll
look up "squid"; thanks for the suggestion, Ben.

As a point of interest for those supporting Windows PCs, it did not matter
that I had left the gateway ip address specified on the Windows PC (which
was why I did not add it in dhcpd.conf; I was going to do that and the
domain name and dns servers after I get 'basic' dhcpd working correctly).
It looks like once I specified "Obtain an IP address automatically" on the
Windows PC, the gateway entry became non-operative without any warning.
