Perhaps the lesson might be that unless we come to the meeting and speak 
up, our voices will not be heard. Actually, special interest groups such 
as SMIRK, SWOT, etc.,  should position themselves as advocates for their 
members point of view. I assume that they did this? If not, it would be 
very difficult to complain since one of the values of having a special 
interest group is to poll the members and find out the majority view as 
much as you can and advocate for that view.

After all that is what ARRL did when they asked for input and many of us 
gave our Division Directors our position on a number of issues including 
bandwidth and mode proposals. They had a near impossible situation since 
many of us are on totally opposite sides of the fence on some issues.
