At least git is used for the kernel, so it's not just another
scm that you have to know about :)

It doesn't have to be like that. One main, plus optional repositories,
e.g. the new wm branch could be its own.

As the number of repositories I'm going to manage won't grow
with that move it could only become simpler.

No, it's for easier management. It's even to make flowing back
to the mainline faster! :)
