Oh dear, that's a shame :-(

Can VIA not be persuaded to release the source for libddmpeg to you?

There's a newer one than that, here:

This compiles with 2.6.11 (albeit with lots of warnings).  I haven't
tried loading it.

I see they've changed the representation of the TV encoder config but
I'm sure I can provide a patch for a nice 720x576 non-scaled mode. 
I'd be happy to take a look at that once you've got a working
DirectFB-compatible framebuffer.
