You are comparing NSI's business practices while the SOLE registry and
registrar of gTLDs to what the situation would be with competitive
registries and gTLDs.

One cannot draw conclusions of how competitive registries will run
(and the benefits accrued to the customers) by looking at how a
monopoly was running.
