Hi William,
You've got a point there regarding going against the openness of opensrs
mailing lists. However, don't you think certain restrictions should be
placed on list access and legitimacy of postings? Its not very nice to have
somebody else posting defamatory comments through impersonating a creditable
party. This time its unfortunately Lee Hodgson. Next time it may be you, or
me, or another innocent party, or even an OpenSRS staff for that matter...
Instead of changing the entire discuss-list (or any existing list) into
"RSP-only" mode, OpenSRS could form a separate mailing list or bulletin
board whereby RSPs can access via password authentication. The archives can
be opened for public viewing by all means, but requires RSP access to post.
This way, the openness of opensrs' service is thus preseved :)
Similarly, staff from OpenSRS can better track each individual RSP's needs
in a sense that they can monitor their demands, suggestions (and rants)
closely, with some assurance that the people posting messages are really who
they claim to be.
What do you think? Somebody from OpenSRS care to comment on this?
Cheers
Caleb

The problem here is that one RSP was impersonating another.
Dotcomnic.net has had a bad reputation on other mailing lists for
pulling "scams" such as posting as a customer of dotcomnic.net and
raving about their services and prices, etc. IMO OpenSRS should
issue a stern warning against dotcomnic.net, and possibly restrict
them to read only access to the list for abusing their posting
privileges, not to mention the potential defaming of a reputable RSP
who is an active and valuable participant on this forum.
I'm of two minds about the RSP only access to the discuss list. In my
mind it does somewhat go against the openness that this service is
supposed to be advocating as a part of their model.
