The US Government as much as forced us to accept "the standard", whether we 
liked it or not. And more importantly - whether we're inside our outside 
their juristiction. ICANN is just an extension of the US Government, no 
matter what anyone says to the contrary.

Personally, although I can see some problems with opening up the root 
servers, I think it would be a good thing - a very good thing. The problems 
will just have to be resolved - new policies and guidelines, new ways of 
handling things. It's called "progress". Look it up.

Me, I can't wait to have my own TLD. And as soon as I have enough money to 
set it up, you can be sure I will...
