Automated DNS setup

I'm new to domain reg and DNS...

When a new domain is registered, do we need to set up parameters for each 
domain on our server, or can it be done automatically? I mean, if we run 
our own DNS and want to allow new domains to be parked at our server with 
generic "Coming Soon" page..

What is more user friendly for this purpose, Unix or NT?

Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.
