Sigh, I'm also pulling my hair out over the register.com tactics.
I have a client with 3 domains to transfer. One went through (even
though there was an error on the register.com site like cpauls'
client had) but 2 are pending registry approval since 9:34 am Mar
14, 2001. They still show as pending in the "Orders in Progress"
section of the RWI. Unfortunately, the admin contact was listed as
the company president who has better things to do than deal with
about 2 dozen emails from register.com so far! He didn't act fast
enough on the two outstanding domains with the register.com email
although he did reply to the opensrs mail. I told him the request
should time out, and that we would resubmit the 2 transfers....but
when is this going to happen? His domains expire on March 31 so he
is anxious.

He also forwarded me mail today which I found quite alarming. If
he doesn't act before the deadline for the domain renewal, they
were going to automatically charge the credit card they had on
file.
Quote from their email:
" In an effort to protect your online identity, register.com is
providing SafeRenew(tm) Automatic Renewal Service for your domain
name(s). This means that upon expiration, we will automatically
renew your domain name(s) and attempt to charge the credit card
on file for your domain name(s) for one additional year of
registration at $35 per name. "

I promptly went to their site and disabled this "SafeRenew" service
they offered!! They had previously offered to renew the domains
for only $12. Now if we don't get the domains transferred in time,
they want to renew them automatically at $35. Yikes.

Also, they are still sending out this email for the domain that did
successfully transfer last week, so it's confusing and annoying my
client seeing them say they are going to automatically charge him
for it.
