It makes me money as they register the domains, so I suppose I should not
complain.

But I'm not sure it is a healthy thing for the business nor a good thing for
most speculators. There are too many domains setting unused because some
speculator bought them years ago and is setting on them hoping to make a
killing.

Also I feel for those who spend hundreds or thousands to buy domain names to
speculate on selling them, only to realize a year or two later they have
wasted their money.

I have one client that bought 165 name last year and was only able to sell
two of them. When I sent her the renewal notice, she emailed me back a sad
tale of how much she had lost doing this and wanted to know if I would buy
them from her or refund her money.

I felt bad about her losing the money, but if she could not sell them in a
year, how could I? I explained that we did not speculate in domain names
and could not refund the money because almost all of it went to OpenSRS and
the registry to pay for the domain name.

I do have a few domain names that I am setting on for future development.
Not for sale, because I would not sell them, but for sites that I plan to
develop as I get the time. I develop a new site about every two-three
months.

But I'm not sure this should be allowed, even if I am doing it.

Speculation is a sign that things are healthy in the domain biz. I
just think it is something that shouldn't be discouraged.

After all, in every other industry, it is encouraged and acceptable.
