I'd be genuinely amazed if that's true in today's Internet business
environment. Sure, a lot of people made money on names when the dotcom
shmucks were willing to pay many thousands of dollars (cause they didn't
give a damn - they had gazillions to burn). Even then, because names were
so cheap, these guys were buying hundreds or thousands of names and selling
a handful.
Imagine a guy who bought a couple hundred names incorporating 'bookstore',
based on the hype of what was supposed to be Amazon's amazing success story.
How many geniuses would open another online bookstore today? Or how about
names with 'portal'. Oops.
