I'm considering .ca renewals, and I'm wondering how our channel will view
the messaging involved.
Basically, we're going to build .ca into our existing renewal processes and
it will work much like the gTLD renewals....
So, in terms of messaging, Resellers can optionally send messages at 60, 30
days, etc.
The Issue:
CIRA also sends each registrant a reminder email at 60, 30, 7 and 0 days
from expiry. I think this is going to complicate things somewhat with our
model, since we pretty much count on the fact that Resellers are the only
people who message their customers. This keeps things simple, as Registrants
know who to contact for service.
How do you all feel about the fact that CIRA will be sending these notices
out? Maybe my concerns are ill founded?
There may be nothing we can do, but if there is, educating myself on how
this will be received is the first step.

CIRA's policies follow:
(b) If the registration period has not been renewed 60 days prior to the
expiry date of
the registration period, CIRA will advise the Registrar of record by email
or a
web-based report of the expiry date of the Registration. The Registrant
will also
be sent an email advising it of the expiry date;
(c) If the registration period has not been renewed 30 days prior to the
expiry date of
the registration period, CIRA will advise both the Registrant and the
Registrar of
record that the Registration is due to expire within 30 days;
(d) If the registration period has not been renewed seven (7) days prior to
the expiry
date of the registration period, CIRA will send a final advisory email
message to
the Registrant and the Registrar of record that the Registration is due to
expire
within seven (7) days; and
(e) If the Registration has not been renewed by its expiry date, the
Registration will
be automatically suspended from the expiry date of the registration period
for a
period of 30 days. Both the Registrant and its Registrar of record will be
advised
of this suspension by email.
