We do not compare ourselves to NSI, and the forced and extended comparison
that follows that statement is not a matter for SnapNames to address, but
for NSI. My statement was a reference to one of our many partners who have
offered our services to their customers without waiting for an API, in part
because when the name is already registered, the customer is going to leave
anyway. Might as well send them to something to buy.

Our practices are set forth on our website and in our terms and conditions.
Any customer who absolutely does not want to transfer, but merely to get a
refund, may go with a different service. We treat customers like adults and
we do not coddle them, but we are also far from inflexible. Still, the
administrative nightmare and cost of constantly giving refunds in a business
without anything near 100% efficacy was a business decision we made, and
very, very few customers complain. And none complain after we point out to
them that, unlike the NSI you critique, there are no surprises in our
practices. We inform customers of their options, and they choose. It is
unclear what more you would have us do.

Hello,

I have a lot of trouble respecting a company which compares itself to
NSI.

As per the previous conversations here and elsewhere, it seems there is a
general feeling that calling NSI "pond scum" is an insult to pond scum...

As for "reason to leave money on the table," try this: NSI has lost a lot
of respect from most people in this business because of their
money-grabbing tactics. Sending out an invoice months after the domain
has been transferred to another registrar, refusing to refund money when
an invoice is accidentally paid, and other circumstances have earned it a
very poor reputation.

Also, the discussed policy of Snapnames to not readily refund unsucessful
domain payments, but to merely transfer it to another name is definitely
la practice NSI.

If Snapnames wants to enter the market with the same sort of bad taste
that NSI leaves in the mouths of many, including myself, they will most
certainly lack a great deal of support that they may have otherwise had.

OpenSRS: should Snapnames become an OSRS partner, please allow the
resellers the option of turning the Snapnames service off and on in the
RWI.

Thank you,

-kb
