Alan,
If you want to transfer ownership for a domain that is less than 60 days
old you can only do that on directNIC.  We allow ownership transfers
between account holders on domains that are less than 60 days old.  But
you can not transfer a domain between registrars until it is 60 days
old.

So if you want to transfer ownership of the domain and be able to manage
the DNS of the domain.  You will either need to wait until the 60 days
are over or create an account and then do an ownership transfer of the
domain.
