If this is actually a pilot scheme as you say (rather than just a bit of testing or R&D) then how come it wasn't announced and resellers invited to take part? > or are you opposed to it because it isn't right to do something like > this under any circumstances (even when it is available to all of > our resellers)? What isn't right in any circumstances is running a testbed/pilot on your live system against domains where the owners and resellers who registered those domains haven't agreed to be part of the testbed/pilot. You're basically messing with your customers' domains without their consent. Your testbed/pilot should be strictly limited to domains where you have the explicit prior approval of the domain owners and resellers involved. > Or is it something else? What are you actually testing/planning/piloting? Understanding this will really go a long way in allowing us to more appropriately comment on what you are doing - sort of the most important part of getting feedback (giving us information I mean). If you actually told us some concrete details about what the project was we might be able to give you feedback. So far we've just gotten some vague comments about a "testbed" (or "pilot") and a possible new service, but no real idea of what this testbed/pilot is testing/piloting or how any such service might work. What people have been commenting on so far is what they've seen happen and the (lack of) response from OpenSRS when asked. You have given use of some deleted domains to a third party prior to the usual drop, and the owners and resellers of these domains had not been asked if, or even informed, that this can happen. This smells bad. In fact in the absence of any proper explanation from OpenSRS it positively reeks of something underhand going on. I hope that this is not the case, but if you aren't completely open and honest with us how can we trust you? You're called OpenSRS so how about being a bit more open about what is actually going on? If there hadn't been a third party involved (Directseek) and the domains had been "lit up" using OpenSRS nameservers and webpages that were obviously part of some kind of test then I imagine that people wouldn't have been quite as upset, but there would still be serious questions over your conduct in doing this without any announcement let alone the agreement of all the parties affected. As there *is* a third party involved who are directly benefiting from this testbed/pilot then you have some serious explaining to do. Mark.
