FYI, register.com has had the ability to lock domains for quite awhile. If I remember correctly registry lock has been available since day one and register.com was the first ICANN accrediated registrar to go live... > contacting the registry and having it un-locked? The registry doesn't have much say or power in this. register.com's relationship with the registry is a lot different than our relationship with OpenSRS. register.com doesn't need to use registry lock to block transfers away from them. They can easily decline any transfer request received and actually(in this case) have a somewhat legitimate story to back it up. Of course this shouldn't be too much of a concern for us because if a customer says "I can save money if I only register for one year at register.com", you can come and say "for the same money, you can get double the time with us"...
