This could occur from any registrar.  If you renew the domain (post expiry)
and then transfer within 45 days of expiry, you'll lose a year.  Is this
something like what you've experienced?

This will also occur with OpenSRS.  Due to this, we will allow a transfer
post-expiry - just ask, and we'll let it go (if you DO renew it, we cannot
allow a refund)
