We actually already use Gmane, as you can see here: http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.org.freeculture.discuss But Gmane itself is a webservice, and we want something hosted on our own server. Also, while it is true that Gmane runs on free software, so we could download the same software and create something similar on our own servers, Gmane's blog interface is not nearly as advanced / featureful / convenient for blogging as Wordpress is. Wordpress is better for blogging.
