Hi there

I have a V210 that I use at home for SW development. This is a fine Solaris
machine and fan control is handled nicely by picl with the fans spooling
down to a nice hum once this service starts.

Wish i could say the same about a newly acquired T1000 - this machine - as
small as a V100 - and 10X as noisy beats every server I have ever
experienced in excessive noise - with the fans spooling up to 9K RPM and
staying there even when picl starts from Solaris 10.

My question is if I migrate to illumos can I have more control over the
fans? Some say OB controls the fans.. but picl must do something as it
slows down the fans on my V210.

I may even say that many may migrate away from Solaris (I would) if illumos
could handle the fans more gracefully - especially for me with the
*unusable* T1000 in its present state....

The fans at 9K RPM are way overkill... esp when the warning threshold is
around 3K.

I'd even do some low level work if it could handle the fans well, perhaps
starting with libpicl or am I way off?

Many thanks
