Yep. Everybody knows that the T1000 is a "bit" louder. But your thread inspired me to find out, why.
I haven't used a T1000 in some years, and my recollections may be inaccurate. At the time, there was some common chassis design between the SPARC and x86 systems, and ISTR that the earlier T-series systems ended up with the cooling required for the much more power hungry x86 systems. Later T-series systems (may have been after the T1000) had some of the fans removed, as the T-series didn't need them all. I'm not suggesting you remove any of your fans - it's quite possible there was also some additional engineering changes made to make sure uniform cooling was maintained without hot spots when this was done. I really don't remember now if the fan speed in the T1000 was ever controlled, but I do recall them as being noisy, and it was about that time that the noise in our computer rooms exceeded safe levels and ear defenders had to be worn at all times (not necessarily due to just the T1000s). -- Andrew ------------------------------------------- illumos-discuss Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/182180/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/182180/21175430-2e6923be Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21175430&id_secret=21175430-6a77cda4 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
