Many thanks for the replies. The T1000 at I believe 75db which is much louder than a 4U Quad USIIIi V440... (Ref: http://www.trygve.com/blog_2009_07.html for interesting SUN server noise levels)... I suspect it may even be louder than a Quad USIV V490.... (which one would think may not be possible)
I have the internal Sun Book (2.2.1 May 2009) that indicates operating and idling is 66db... This server has a serious noise issue which considering it is marketed as an eco green friendly low power server is a bit of a joke :) I mean 150W... doesn't take much to dissipate this! Will install Illumos and start looking at power management in more depth.
