I used to be a fulltime developer. I was the head of development for a company 
that created ERP software. Now I have devoted myself to ui/ux design and the 
more I stay away from development, the better designer I become. "Understanding 
the limitations" is too often the problem, I think. We need to disregard the 
limitations and encourage our developers to go there - to find a way.
Demand respect from your developers. Do not let them tell you that "It is not 
possible." We are simply putting pixels on screens. Anything is possible.
