In the role of devil's advocate, the number of items is one metric, but the
other metric is the quality of the items.  It would be interesting to
conduct a brief survey regarding the overall quality of the discussions.
Then you could periodically, say once a quarter, ask the same question to
see if the perceived quality is changing.
