Hi Joan, The discussion list has grown substantially in traffic over the last four years. When the ixda.org site originally launched it advertised 40 e-mails per week for the list. The gamma site now estimates 40 e-mails per DAY. A little more than 1000 posts per month in overall activity. If you look back through the archives it's rare to find an individual thread that has more than a dozen or so participants. Now we easily exceed 50 posts per thread a few times a month. And those threads can go on for weeks.
The IxDA RSS feeds provide a way to manage that volume. The IxDA Popular feed for instance leverages participation as an indication of quality, and only shows those threads that have five or more contributions. There's also a feed that only lists new threads (20-30/week) without all the followup posts. Both options reduce the traffic substantially. RSS also provides a way to selectively subscribe to topics of interest or to the posts of individual members whose opinion you value. Another way to help determine quality is to use the favorite marking system on the gamma site. Whenever you come across a post that's particularly good, flag it. It'll be highlighted for other members to find. // jeff . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
