Keep in mind that this is the same "60 Minutes" where Andy Rooney has made a career of going on a weekly screed about "these damn kids! - get off my lawn!" or something akin to that. Its the news equivelent to Matlock and Murder She Wrote.
In my former capacity as a teacher, I have seen the "world owes me a living" attitude in action. It entertaining to be the one delivering the reality check in some cases. I've also met some amazing young people who have sacrificed greatly for their country, and for society as volunteers, soldiers, teachers, etc. Frankly, I'm not sure this is all that new of a phenomenon. Baby boomers as a generation have not been noted for their self-sacrifice: 50% divorce rate, moral relativism, skyrocketing personal debt, no retirement savings why should their children be any different? The underlying assumption of the piece is that we should all be loyal and greatfull for the chance to have a job - any job. In the age of "down sizing" "right sizing" out sourcing, etc - why should companies expect any more loyalty from their workers than they give? Karma can be a bitch. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
