Interesting discussion. I think we can take it as a given that we're not doing much, as a profession, to curb waste and needless consumption. Quite the opposite, in fact. I would think this is because, for the most part, we're hired by companies that want to encourage consumption--of their own product or service, that is--with little regard for sustainability. If there were significant incentives to decouple economic growth from resource and energy use, I bet all of a sudden we would take it upon ourselves to contribute to solutions to the challenges of society.
