I am a small shop. 17 Remote sites (two servers + firewall at each site)
7+ servers internal ~500 users. I say small because it is just me and a
programmer here. I use Big Brother (have been for almost 10 years). I
get notified via email to our main email site and then have our email
(GroupWise) send a message to my cell via our provide's email to text
gateway. There are other ways to configure BB to notify you but the way
I have it works for me and gets through all of my firewall issues.

I get every page as I am and the guy who has to make the fix or be part
of the fix.

So I belong to a mid sized shop, and we have been looking at migrating
away from a bunch of home grown tools, to other tools.

As part of this discussion, we have been discussing how to deliver the
alerts, be it Paging via TAP, SMS, carrier pigeon, etc. We are a high
uptime shop, so this has reached religious fervor in regards to should
be stick with Paging, should we move to SMS (Via a SMS gateway).

So I thought I'd ping the group.

What size shop are you? Small, Medium, Large?
Do you need to get every page?
Do you use SMS or Paging?

How do you like your solution, and have you found any pitfalls?

If you could take a few minutes and even just email me (not
necessarily the rest of the group) what you have found, it would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris
