I agree with the HP ProCurve suggestion. I needed to replace old 3Com network gear and ProCurve's pricing worked in our budget. The equipment had a lifetime warranty, but I never had to use it in the 3+ years I worked there. You can buy an HP carepack if you need rapid service. Software updates are easily downloadable from hp.com without having to constantly keep a service contract registered on your account.
