I've posted this on some less trafficked lists, and am now branching out, in hopes of answers.
I admit it. Gmail has stepped on my last nerve. I have multiple gmail accounts, and they have the SINGLE positive feature that makes me want to keep them, which is aggressive and effective spam filtering. I also like that I can send email without ending up being tracked. For example, I use a gmail account for online banking, since they require an email address to do so, and because they are complete and utter morons... Oh, wait, wrong rant. Anyway, I pop a couple of them, using Sylpheed (via FreeBSD) and Claws (via Ubuntu). I probably will do this with all of them, but am looking for experience with either package from other folks. Please note that I've been using both of those for quite some time. My concern is with volume of mail that they can handle, and with number of accounts. If I pop all the email that I'm interested in saving, it will probably total about one gig (I am amazed to realize that I've had gmail account from 2004). I am probably going to update a machine to run FreeBSD 8.2, and install Claws 3.7.7_1 (http://www.claws-mail.org/), since Claws seems like it's going to be around (and supported) longer, but my actual needs via email are handled by either. -- Amor fati.
