Make this another +1. When the original iPad came out, a colleague got one, I played with it for a bit, and determined it was a big iPhone. The toolset has changed quite a bit since then. Ubiquitous VPN connectivity, seamless Dropbox integration, and for me iSSH - which provides SSH tunneling, VNC and and X server - I can now do almost all my work from this thing. It is still easier and more convenient for me to get on a real system to do work, but for social gatherings I no longer need to lug a heavy laptop. A very slim portfolio does it. Hardest thing now is remembering to take it with me when I go somewhere. I probably sound like an Apple shill...I'm sure connectivity from Android is much easier. But the IPad offers a really seamless rich experience that I don't need to admin. I've got way too many servers at home and at work to manage...nice to have a device that pretty much just works.
