With the exciting news about Microsoft SkyDrive and Google Drive this week,
I was hoping to get some further input from others as to which of these
three cloud storage services they plan to make the most use of.

don't forget Amazon is also offering similar things (as are others)

Which of these services are you planning to make your primary storage
solution? While I use a lot of Google's services, I'm a bit concerned about
their privacy policies. Most likely giving them ownership of any of my
files would never be an issue but I'm not sure that is a risk I'm willing
to take when it isn't necessary given the policies of their competitors in
this market.

I don't believe that any of these organizations are asking you to give them ownership of the files

The CNET news article here
<http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57420551-93/who-owns-your-files-on-google-drive/>does
a good job of summing up my concerns.

as the article states, the second paragraph makes all the difference.

given all the silly lawsuits over copyright floating around right now, this reads to me as a lawyer making sure that they don't get sued for copying your files to other systems, including development systems where they may make 'derivitive' works by doing things like compressions, deduplicating, etc.

If you're worried about this, then you should be encrypting all your data before you upload it anyway (just make sure you have sufficent reundancy in your storage of the encryption keys). This is probably a good idea in any case (do you really trust these cloud storage providers to have perfect security and keep bad people away from your files? I know that I don't)

The far bigger issue with cloud storage is the megaupload issue, You may find that you lose all access to your data due to illegal actions of other people who's files happen to be stored in the same place as your files.
