I have heard this before, but no one has ever provided a citation.
Do you know *where* it is stated to be illegal under Ca. law?

doesn't mean that everyone is aware (lots of things happen that violate
CA law) and it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen fairly often. I
certainly wouldn't work for anyone trying to dodge around paying medical
and such.

query about a closed list for Employer discussion and subsequent pointer
to glassdoor lands me at this subject. It *was* my opinion that it was
legally dodgy in California to hire a temporary for a long term position
in order to avoid paying the benefits commensurate with permanent
positions. But now I'm not so sure what to think of this. I currently
see a System Administrator position advertised in writing via a
glassdoor link as: "This is a long term temporary position with
${employer}". The usual wording I see to justify it is that a Permatemp
position is OK as long as it is for "project" work, i.e., the position
has an objective start and end. However, in the cases I'm aware of,
including the ad I quoted above, it's not for a specific project. Are
other folks seeing this permatemp hiring trend out there for core IT
positions, including sysadmins?
