For many of us, getting into Systems Administration meant starting out in the Help Desk. If you get into a good organization and show aptitude for fixing things and interest in managing systems then it won't be long until they turn you into an entry-level systems administrator. No college necessary.
If you want to skip the Help Desk you will probably need to show some kind of work history managing systems, probably as a volunteer. "I managed the family web site" probably isn't enough.
