I think that we are at an inflection point now. I think that many of
the resources that are currently available talk about "System"
Administration, but we do "Systems" Administration. For example, most
intro admin resources talk about adding users and groups, but we want to
hire admins who understand AAA systems, like LDAP and Active Directory.

Microsoft makes an incredible variety of training material available for
free. A few resources include:

- Virtual courses - http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/

I think these are mostly videos

example course "Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials"

http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/training-courses/windows-server-2012-r2-essentials

- TechNet Virtual Labs - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/virtuallabs

  Play with virtual machines...

example lab "Getting to Know Windows Server 2012 R2"

https://vlabs.holsystems.com/vlabs/technet?eng=VLabs&auth=none&src=microsoft.holsystems.com&altadd=true&labid=10871

- TechNet Library - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/

  RTFM

example docs "Install and Deploy Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows
Server 2012"

You may also want to check your local public library (or local
university library if they extend borrowing rights to community
members). For example, your library might have access to the "Ebook
Library" (http://www.eblib.com/), which currently contains 778 titles
published by O'Reilly (which might be more than I own...).
