My worst day: Taking a brief downtime event to move a database from one disk
volume to another. Mid-day, so obviously the only backups in place were from
the previous night. It was a necessary event I had to do RIGHT NOW because
of disk capacity issues.

“I don’t need to take an extra backup of this, I’ve done this DB move operation
a ton of times before”.

You can easily guess how that ended….. In a rush to get things done, I
accidently did one command out of order and suddenly realized that yeah, I had
created the new DB container in the new destination, but hadn’t copied over the
original CONTENTS before first wiping out the source. And I was so cocky
about not needing to take the extra 60 minutes to get a backup first.

I had to go into the office area and explain to everyone that I had just
deleted ALL of their morning’s work. And that they would have to re-key
everything from midnight the previous day forward.
