Hello,

I would recommend you to use a stable version of SqueezeCenter.

Furthermore, you will need a program to convert ALAC to a format
supported by the Squeezebox. I know that on Linux it is alac. According
to this thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52502),
on Windows and Mac OS it is Quicktime. You can download the latest
version of Quicktime from Apple
(http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/). You should not need to
install iTunes.

As for the Apple Lossless format, the Squeezebox supports it (usually),
it is lossless (unlike lossy formats) and it is fully supported by
iTunes/iPod/iPhone (contrarily to FLAC). There therefore is no reason
to change, unless you are tight on storage space.

Regards,

JC
