2.6.8 means you're running Debian sarge release.. This release is VERY
old, and probably not going to work very well. Etch was released over
a year ago, and security updates were discontinued for sarge 9 months
ago.
You should update to etch and add the squeezecenter package to your
sources.list. This is a one-step process, and takes a few min.
