May be a tad messy, but I think the benefits of it are the elements drives are completely silent, no fans. And price wise it's far cheaper, you build it as you go, no added costs for the NAS/enclosure and power, just < £80 per drive
The PCH and drives are accessible across the network, not 100% about playing them on a computer, but you can see them and copy from them by my understanding. Maybe more. the PCH only has USB, there is the egreat that has esata.
