What I did when my POS Belkin decided it wanted to barf too much as an
router:

I set up a linux box with 'dnsmasq'  installed (which does all the NAT,
dhcp and such and makes it into a router).

Then I took the 'internal' network wire from that and plugged it into
one of the 4 ports of the Belkin.  I turned off DHCP on the belkin.  By
plugging into a regular port (not the 'wan' port), it effectively
disabled the Belkin from doing NAT, since it only NATs betwenn the
local ports and the WAN port.... so with nothing on WAN, it was out of
the loop on that.
