buy one or two BlacX docking stations and use any 2.5 or 3.5 raw hard
drive. I carry my drives in VHS boxes, but if you use 2.5 drives you
can find something smaller.

The advantage is you can buy as many drives as you want and drives are
generally cheaper. If anything goes wrong with a USB drive, most of
the timeit has to go back to the manufacturer to get the data off.
With a BlacX and a spare drive you can use whatever tricks you can come
up with to get the old data off (ie: freezing, etc..)

Anyway, I've found the BlacX at different places for as low as $19.95.
They also make one with a 4 port usb hub built in.

I have different drives for different machines, but one handy docking
unit.
