thanks everyone for the quick & plentiful replies. its good to hearthat the touch remote will work with the SB classic, that is definitely a viable option. although I am slightly concerned about the lack of brightness button for update, I am not sure which firmware version I have, i'll check it out when I get home. anyone know when the firmware changed to the version where you can update using left button?
my remote may still be fixable i'd need to have another look, it fell in a glass of orange squash and went un noticed for most of the day (one downside to you're music causing everything to vibrate off of its surface!) when I opened it up I found the capacitor had pretty much burst and the solder in the area of the capacitor was corroded.
